Swede Tweed F1

Tweed Swede is a British bred vigorous growing hybrid with good club root resistance. This hardy winter root vegetable is an attractive well-formed uniform globe shape with purple shoulders and cream coloured flesh. Tweed grows particularly well in less fertile soil which is why it is a firm favourite with the home gardener. Swede is delicious when simply mashed with a little bit of butter. Yummy!

When to Sow Swede Tweed F1 Seeds

May to June

Where to Sow

Sow direct outdoors into shallow drills 2cm (3/4in) deep and 45cm (18in) between the rows.

What to do Next

Gradually thin the seedlings as they grow to a final spacing of 10-15cm (4-6in) apart. Water regularly to avoid woody roots. A very hardy vegetable so can be harvested as required.

Maturity

October onwards.

Handy Tip

Some gardeners have difficulty producing good size swedes from direct sown seed. We have found that by sowing in modules and transplanting once large enough is a reliable way of producing this crop.

Nutritional Values

A very good source of pro-vitamin A, vitamins B and C.
