When to Sow Silver Dollar Eucalyptus Seeds

February to May

Where to Sow

Eucalyptus is best sown under cover in individual pots filled with a soil-less seed sowing compost. Sow seeds onto the surface of moist (Not Wet) compost and lightly cover seeds with vermiculite. Sow at a temperature of 21°C (70F). Seeds should start to germinate after 14 days. If germination has not occurred after 4-6 weeks, place the pots into a fridge at 5C for 4-6 weeks then return to warmth for germination. Keep a check on the pots in the fridge as they can sometimes start to germinate in fridge - if they do move out as you can see shoots.

When to Transplant

Transplant seedlings when they have 3-4 true leaves to a 13-15cm pot, taking care as these plants dislike root disturbance. Plant out to their permanent position as soon as large enough.

Flowers

Ready as a cut flower from July to October.

When to Transplant

Prefers a slightly acidic soil in full sun. Offer shelter when young. Tolerant of our UK climate. Can be left unpruned as a small tree. Young foliage is striking which makes it ideal for cutting.
