Petunia hybrida Purple Velvet F1

Purple Velvet F1 Petunia Pellets

The best trailing petunia from seed. The intense violet-purple blooms are stunning in hanging baskets, performing better than surfinia petunias raised from cuttings. Unlike surfinias they continue to produce flowers on top as well as bottom of the plant. Can also be used for ground cover.
Height: 80-100cm (32"-40")

What is a Pellet?

As the seeds of petunias are extremely small, we coat our seeds to make them easier to handle. These are known as pellets.

When to Sow Purple Velvet Petunia Pellets

February to March

Where to Sow

Sow petunia pellets on the surface of good free draining seed compost and gently pressed into the sowing medium. Petunias need light for germination so they should not be covered with soil. After sowing, the compost should be moistened with a fine mist. Uniform temperatures of 20-25°C (68-77°F) are needed for optimum germination, and the trays should be placed in a propagator or covered with clear plastic. While they should be placed in bright light, direct sunlight may inhibit germination. Germination usually takes 10-21 days.

What to do Next

When seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant into pots or trays. Gradually acclimatise plants to cooler conditions for a few weeks before planting out after all risk of frost, 15-30cm (6-12") apart, or plant into containers. Overwinter September sowings in a cold frame then plant out the following spring.

Flowers

June onwards

Handy Tip

Keep baskets well watered and fed with a high potash feed to prolong flowering all summer in baskets and containers.
