Self Heal is a very attractive spreading plant with dark purple flower spikes from June to September. Useful wound herb especially for sore mouth and throat.
In the 16th Century, it was believed that a plant always bore an outward sign as to its intended use. Here they saw the shape of the throat, so it was used to treat quinsy and diptheria.
Habitat: grass-land.
Height 22cm.
Native.
Perennial wildflower, great for butterflies.
