When to Sow Autumn King Carrot Seeds

April to July

Where to Sow

Sow seeds thinly to avoid the need for thinning out later on. Sow direct into the growing site 2cm (¾") deep in rows 30cm (12") apart.

What to do Next

Carrot fly is attracted by the smell whilst thinning, so try to avoid this process. If needed to thin then wait until evening time, water before thinning and remove all the debris. Do not transplant. Aim for roots 5-7cm (2-3"") apart. Young Carrots can always be pulled alternately to 'thin as you eat'.

Maturity

June to November

Handy Tip

Never grow carrots on ground that has recently had manure spread, as the roots will fork in search of goodness.
