Carrot St Valery

Carrot seeds - St Valery is probably the best known variety of carrot. It's a prizewinner on the show bench and in the kitchen! It benefits from long tapering roots, produces heavy yields but with good flavour packed inside crisp flesh with a small core. A long time favourite.

When to Sow St. Valery Carrot Seeds

April to July

Where to Sow

Sow thinly direct into the growing site 2cm (¾") deep in rows 30cm (12") apart. If possible sow carrot seeds carefully so that thinning is not necessary.

What to do Next

Carrot fly is attracted by the smell whilst thinning. If you have to thin the seedlings, do so in the evening. Remove any debris and water before thinning. Do not transplant. Aim for roots 5-7cm (2-3") apart. Alternatively, young Carrots can always be pulled alternately to 'thin as you eat'.

Maturity

June to November.

Nutritional Values

High in antioxidant beta-carotene which converts to vitamin A in the body.

Handy Tip

Never grow carrots on ground that has recently had manure spread as he roots will fork in search of goodness.
