Where to Sow

Surface sow onto moist, well-drained seed compost. Lightly cover the seed with a sprinkling of vermiculite or sieved compost. Place in a warm place 18-24°C where germination usually takes 14-21 days.

What to do next

Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle in to pots or trays. Gradually harden off, acclimatise to cooler conditions and plant out once danger of frost has passed or grow on in the greenhouse in a Large container or a growbag. Prefers a moist, fertile soil in full sun. Plants will require a framework or support netting or canes to climb.

Handy Tip

Best grown as an annual. If grown for eating do not allow to flower as this will turn the leaves bitter. Frost will kill this plant.
