When to Sow Gypsophila Seeds

February to June

Where to Sow

Sow seeds under cover onto the surface of seed sowing compost in pots or trays, then lightly cover the seeds with sieved compost or vermiculite. Place at a temperature of 15-21°C (60-70°F) until seeds germinate which usually takes 10-21 days.

What to do Next

Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into pots or trays. Grow on under cover until large enough to gradually acclimatise to cooler conditions before planting out into borders 60cm (24") apart in well drained soil in a sunny spot.

Flowers

June onwards

Handy Tip

Cut back plants in the autumn after flowering to about 15cm (6") from the soil and these will reshoot and bloom again the following year. Overwinter autumn sown plants in a coldframe and plant out the following spring.
