An unusual heritage variety with attractive crimson flowers that will look just as good in the flower border as in the vegetable plot. Produces a good crop of tasty beans in short, upright pods for easy picking. The plants can grow to 90cm tall and 45cm wide.

When to Sow Crimson Flowered Broad Bean Seeds

February to April. The seeds will start to sprout within 7-21 days.

Where to Sow

Early sowings in pots in the greenhouse or under cloches in the growing site. Later sowings direct into the growing site 5cm (2") deep in rows 60cm (24") apart. Prefers full sun.

What to do Next

Glasshouse seedlings should be transplanted to the growing site in March 10cm (4") apart in rows 60cm (24") apart. Outdoor sowings should be thinned to 10cm (4") apart, the thinning's can be transplanted to make extra rows. When the first beans form, remove the top 6cm (3") to discourage black fly.

Bean plants are nitrogen fixers. When cropping is over, cut plants down and dig in roots as a green manure.
