When to Sow Cottage Garden Annual Flowers

March to June.

Flowers

June to September.

Where to Sow

Sow seeds direct into a well-prepared flowering site about 1.5cm (1⁄2”) deep. Mark out irregular shapes in your borders and broadcast the seed and rake in. Alternatively, Mark out irregular shapes then draw out shallow drills 1.5cm (1/2”) deep spaced 30cm (12”) apart within each shape. This will make weeding in the earlier stages much easier.

What to do Next

Plants do not require transplanting, simply thin out seedlings to stop overcrowding. Water during dry spells of weather, and keep weed free. Note Poppies require light to germinate so sow these on the surface of the soil and only lightly rake in.

Handy Tip

Sowing into irregular shaped drifts will easily create that cottage garden look to your borders.
