When to Sow Cirrus Sweet Peas

September to April

Where to Sow

Sowing sweet peas can begin in September through to early April. Our expert Peter Miller recommends that November is the optimum time.
Sow 5 sweet pea seeds into a 3" deep pot using a good growing medium and keep in a cold frame if sowing in October, November and March. Do not let the soil dry out, but do not over water. Chipping and soaking is not necessary.
September and April sowings can be made direct, where they are to flower.  January and February sowings should be kept in a heated glasshouse.

What to do Next

Glasshouse raised seedlings should be hardened off during March. Plant out pot grown seedlings in the flowering site 15cm (6") apart in April. Thin direct sown seedlings to 10cm (4") apart. Pick flowers regularly to encourage new growth.

Maturity

Late June to September

Handy Tip

Provide sturdy support for plants such as trellis, archways or canes.
